Construction of Novi Sad mall being prepared – Sports courts near Karadjordje stadium removed

The last sports courts have been removed from the field between the Karadjordje stadium and Spens. Artificial grass has been removed from the football court, leaving only the earth, and of the former tennis courts, only the clay remains.

Around the wire-fenced discus and hammer throw field, canals have been dug through for sewage pipes, putting the field out of use. A singe earth strip still remains for athletes to train on while they still can.

The great parking lot which the city invested EUR 130,000 in two years ago will be removed in the final stage, despite protests by the citizens, who claim that this will destroy what little green area remains in this part of the city.

Laying down the pipes marks the beginning of the works on preparing the infrastructure for the future building.

The plot of land was sold right before this year's election, making the city richer by EUR 30 million. The buyer is the New Belgrade-based company Nepi Real Estate Project One, which will build a five-floor structure there.

The company builds and maintains shopping malls in a large number of countries, and, in Serbia, they own the Plaza shopping mall in Kragujevac. It can be safely assumed that the Novi Sad mall will be called the same.

There are to large commercial facilities on this location, Mercator and Spens, while Bazar is a few hundred meters away.
