The groundworks have started on the parcel in Novo Naselje where a Lidl supermarket will be built, along with a parking lot with an access road and other accompanying infrastructure. The parcel, which is located right next to the railway in Evrope Blvd at the roundabout, on the Novo Naselje side, has already been leveled and fenced.

The works are being carried out by Best Izgradnja, and the completion deadline is February 1, 2017.

Lidl bought the plot of land at the intersection of Vojvode Stepe Blvd and Evrope Blvd four years ago for EUR 1.6 million in order to raise a 2,660 structure with around a hundred parking spaces.

While Lidl is building the structure, Novi Sad will prepare the surrounding area. Although PE for City Construction and Development of Novi Sad placed the a tender for the preparation of traffic areas, sewer and public lighting several months ago, the procedure hasn't yet been completed due to a complaint submitted to the Commission for the Protection of Rights in Public Procurement Procedures.

Before the complaint was submitted, the Commission had chosen the bid of RSD 24.4 million made by Vojvodinaput-Pancevo.

The German chain plans to open at least another supermarket in Novi Sad in the future, and it is assumed that it will be raised on the land of PE Gradsko Zelenilo Rasadnik, next to the Public City Transport Enterprise of Novi Sad on the road to Veternik.

By May 2017, the construction of a distribution center at the highway near Nova Pazova should also be completed, and the 20 stores planned should open next year throughout Serbia.

Lidl has operated under its current name since 1930, and it has stores in 26 countries in Europe only. It is known for slightly lower prices compared to the competition and very accessible non-branded goods of its suppliers. The assumption is that, by opening a Lidl store, the prices in local stores might drop.
