The building of the passage from Kalemegdan to Savsko pristaniste (Sava Harbor) should commence soon, announced Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Andrija Mladenovic on Friday, 27 May 2016, at Stari dvor (Old Palace).

- The City of Belgrade has adopted the concept of the center of the city as a large pedestrian zone, which will include, aside from Knez Mihailova Street, Toplicin Venac St. and Obilicev Venac St., and together with Vasina St., connect through Kalemegdan with Savsko pristaniste – said Deputy Mayor.

He emphasized that the intention was to make this large central complex into a representative part of the city again, which would draw local guests and foreign tourists alike.

- The future passage, which will be embellished with a sculpture by our prominent sculptor Mrdjan Bajic and a British artist Richard Deacon, will be a blend of the modern and the traditional, largely enabling an unobstructed descent to the river, especially for disabled persons – pointed out Mladenovic.

On this occasion, Andrija Mladenovic and the vice-president of Delta Holding Marija Desivojevic-Cvetkovic signed an agreement on cooperation on the making of the sculpture which would enhance the future pedestrian passage from Kalemegdan to Savsko pristaniste. Namely, the Delta Foundation will finance the making of the sculpture with 300,000 EUR.

Mladenovic thanked the Delta Foundation for recognizing the importance of arranging the city the way it deserves. Desivojevic-Cvetkovic emphasized that, through the signing of the agreement, the two most beautiful highlights of Belgrade would become linked.

The pedestrian passage with the unusual sculpture, which was designed eight years ago by the sculptor Mrdjan Bajic and his British colleague Richard Deacon, was chosen by the city last summer as a solution which “won't offend the fortress nor obstruct its beauties”.

The vice-president of Delta Holding thanked the sculptors Bajic and Deacon for giving Belgrade a remarkable piece of art which would, no doubt, become one of the new symbols of the capitol of Serbia.

The work's author Mrdjan Bajic reminded that the realization of the project called Odande Dovde (There to Here) started in 2006 and thanked the City Management of Belgrade for being decisive in realizing the important project, as well as the Delta Foundation for the means given.

This monumental sculpture, with 62 m2 of surface, will be built out of aluminum and set on top of the tower by a ten-meter long hoist.

The conceptual design was made by the Institute of Transportation CIP. The Belgrade Land Development Public Agency will be in charge of building the passage, which will cost the city more around 1.2 mil EUR. The making of the sculpture, costing 300,000 EUR, will be paid for by the Delta Foundation.

The next step, at least according to the previous statements made by the City Manager Goran Vesic, will be to make a cable-car system from Usce to Kalemegdan, in cooperation with the Serbian Governement.
