Veselin Miloseic, assistant head at Customs Administration - After electronic transit, automatized export process underway

Commontransit system outside the national framework exceeded expectations of theCustoms Administration and the European Union. Geostrategic position of Serbiaand simplified procedures on the borders returned trucks back to our roads. Atotal of 50% of processed customs declarations were from Turkey - EU countries.It is expected that in a year app. half a million trucks transits this way.

- Since the beginning of the application of common transitprocedure, and as at February 29, 10,000 electronic transit declarations havebeen processed. Total number of electronic transit declaration processed duringFebruary this year increased by 12.4% compared to the number of electronictransit declaration processed during the same month last year, 77,259 and in February last year, a total of 62,364 - VeselinMilosevic, assistant head of the Customs Administration in the Department ofinformation and communications technology, said in his interview for eKapija.

Common transit procedure provides possibility forparticipants in customs procedure to transport goods between contracting partiesof the Convention (European Union, EFTA countries as well as the Republic ofTurkey and FYR Macedonia) on the basis of electronic declaration and a provisionwhich is valid throughout the transit operations.

The new system should reduce delays at border crossings, butalso to enable Serbian economy to become more competitive at the global market sinceit is expected that due to this system transport costs of local trade should bereduced.

eKapija: Who benefits from the new system?

- New system will increase employment and income which gointo budget. Apart from companies engaged in export and import, commercialbanks, insurance companies, which are included in the system of guaranteeing forcommon transit, expand business and thus have the opportunity to have a higherprofit from business by guaranteeing for transit procedures (for goods fromSerbia, but also goods that arrive to Serbia or goes to any of the signatorycountries of the Convention)have also benefits.

For goods to be exported, in addition to export declaration, which is still under the old system, electronic transit will enable that a transport means can move without additional downtime, documents, additional warranty. Additional halt is reduced at additional cost, and additional cost to the price of the final product. Consequently, exporters should use the new system more intensely.
