Momirovic: Construction of Bypass Route Around Nis Not to Begin in Autumn, But in March 2023
This February, Momirovic said that the works were most probably to begin in June, and then said in May that they would try to initiate the works in 2022, “as soon as this autumn”.
In May, Momirovic said that the problem was in preparing the land for construction, that is, in expropriation, because the bypass route featured illegal buildings which needed to be demolished, and the state couldn’t render the people living in them “homeless”.
Yesterday, while visiting Nis, Momirovic said that the construction of the bypass route would begin after the preparatory works on the construction of the fast railway from Belgrade to Nis began in the autumn.
– Those are simply the dynamics of it. You have to keep in mind that we got enormous funds, and we’re talking billions of euros here, from our European partners. We have to follow their procedures, which are sometimes, in our opinion, a little slow – Momirovic said while visiting the Nis Airport.
He added that Serbia, if it wanted to realize the right to grants of European partners, needed to follow the procedures.
Momirovic pointed out that it was a strategic decision and policy to have the capital city of Serbia and its biggest cities connected by highest-quality rail infrastructure and for the center of Nis to be free of cargo traffic.
