The construction of the sewer system on the left bank of the Danube, in the Krnjaca neighborhood, which will cover Krnjaca, Ovca, Borca and Kotez and other settlements in that area, has begun.

– The works will be completed within three years. A part of the left bank of the Danube has a sewer system, but even so, all the fecal matter ends up in the Danube, polluting the river. We are now working toward a full solution to this problem, with a waste water treatment facility and pumping stations, whereby we will encompass the new sewer network, but also the existing one, so that unprocessed waste waters no longer end up in the Danube. This is very important for the ecology, but also for people's health. The residents of this part of the city know the best what the open canals and open fecal sewerage look like – said the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, who attended the beginning of the works.

According to him, the project is worth EUR 55 million, of which 20 million is provided by the City, whereas the remaining amount of 35 million comes from a loan from the European Investment Bank.

He also reminded that the tender for the construction of a waste water treatment facility in Krnjaca had been published and added that the contractor would be known on March 14, when the construction is expected to begin as well.

– At the same time, using the money provided by the City, we are completing the pumping station Krnjaca 2, which will pump the fecal sewage to the waste water treatment plant. With its own funds, the City has built eight kilometers of a sewer system in the Braca Maric settlement, and the works on the construction of another six kilometers of a sewer network in Krnjaca, with 320 connections, began today. By March 1 at the latest, the tender for the works which will be financed with a loan from the EIB, will be published. This pertains to the works on the construction of 80 kilometers of a sewer network on the left bank of the Danube – Vesic announced, as reported by Beoinfo.
