Construction of Sewer System on Left Bank of the Danube Begins – Tender for Another 80 Kilometers from EIB Loan by March 1
– The works will be completed within three years. A part of the left bank of the Danube has a sewer system, but even so, all the fecal matter ends up in the Danube, polluting the river. We are now working toward a full solution to this problem, with a waste water treatment facility and pumping stations, whereby we will encompass the new sewer network, but also the existing one, so that unprocessed waste waters no longer end up in the Danube. This is very important for the ecology, but also for people's health. The residents of this part of the city know the best what the open canals and open fecal sewerage look like – said the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, who attended the beginning of the works.
According to him, the project is worth EUR 55 million, of which 20 million is provided by the City, whereas the remaining amount of 35 million comes from a loan from the European Investment Bank.
