Subotica to develop Kosta Nadj barracks complex – Military facility to be turned into residential and office space
According to the adopted Plan, to which no complaints were made during the public review, Subotica lacks residential and commercial facilities the most.
The explanation of the plan says that, on the area of slightly over 13 hectares, there are more than seven hectares of undeveloped area. The creators of the plan also said that the former General Staff building, built in an eclectic style in the early 20th century and facing Lake Palic, as well as the former dormitory and dispensary building, were protected, as was the facility formerly used for tank activity simulation, meaning that interventions on these facilities require consent by the Intermunicipal Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments.
As stated, the entire area of the Kosta Nadj barracks is dilapidated and overgrown, whereas the facilities are in a very bad condition.
The Detailed Regulation Plan divides the area evenly into five sections and envisages turning a part of the Palic road into commercial space. This way, it would complement the commercial facilities on the other side of the road, next to the existing megamarkets and the shopping center.
Further into the area, a block of public facilities meant for education, culture, social welfare and sports would follow, whereas the final three blocks are meant for a multi-family residential and commercial space.
The urban planners have envisaged the construction of buildings with six floors and a loft.
