EU provides support of EUR 60 m to Serbia
The European Commission suggested that EU sets aside EUR 80 m from the Solidarity Fund a support to Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria to rehabilitate floods damages. Serbia should get EUR 60 m as the most damaged country. The European Parliament and EU Council should approve the support.
In EC’s announcement, it was stated that Croatia will get EUR 8, 96 m and EUR 10, 5 m to Bulgaria to rehabilitate floods damages in May and June, Beta reports.
On Friday, October 10, 2014, the proposal on the support was signed by the European commissionaire for regional politics, Johannes Han, in charge of the EU Solidarity Fund and the support is yet to be confirmed by the European Parliament and EU Council.
The funds were planned to cover a part of outstanding debts for public works, first of all for rehabilitation of key infrastructure and services as well as expenses of rescuing and cleaning of hit areas.
July 16, Serbia submitted a request to use funds from the EU Solidarity Fund to rehabilitate flood damages, as it was reminded in the announcement, as a country which is a candidate for membership with which negotiations on membership have been ongoing.
It was added that Serbia suffered the most severe damages in the floods and that the Kolubara Macva, Morava, Pomoravlje regions and parts of Belgrade were the most endangered ones and that some 1,6 million people were hit while key energy installations were damaged and where potable water was polluted.
