Chinese state-owned energy company CNEEC has signed Memorandum of Understanding with the Serbian city of Zrenjanin that lays the groundwork for possible investment in local logistics, environmental protection and renewable energy projects.

The mayor of the city of Zrenjanin Cedomir Janjic and vice-president of CNEEC Li Chengye signed the document, in the presence of CEO of Chinese corporation Zang Dekun and vice-president of Serbian Advance Party (SNS) Goran Knezevic.

This document is significant both for Zrenjanin and Serbia, due to the fact that Chinese company, in conformity with China and Serbian Government, has found its place for investment, said Janjic in his interview to the press.

- The negotiations last for several months and the cooperation goes in three directions. The first one is a large cargo center near Begej, including Ecka airport, as well as a part of industrial area to meet their interest for 100 hectares of land- he said.

The third direction involves environmental and energy protection.

Vice-president of CNEEC specified that this corporation is one of the largest in China, and among 200 largest companies in the world. They operate in about 40 countries in the world and have big projects in energy sector. Regional branch will cover business operations from Ukraine to Turkey and West Europe.

- When it comes to environmental protection, we are nearly the best in China. There are mini hydropower plants, biogas power plants, waste water treatment, solar power plants and waste recycling, projects which are priorities of the city of Zrenjanin.

Chinese "Sinomah-Cneec-Cneetc" corporation has worked on development of industrial zone in Ub, which needs a large cargo center, similar to the one suggested for Zrenjanin municipality.

Li Chengye could not precisely say how much will be invested in Zrenjanin, nor terms of commencement.

- Three main reasons for Chinese investments in Zrenjanin are to remove overabundant industry from China, the need for fast reindustrialization in Serbia and its expected integration in EU. What we expect is a mutual benefit.
