Construction of sorting and recycling center commenced in Vrsac - Partnership between Drugi Oktobar and Hyundai Energy

Construction of the Sorting and Recycling Center and a treatment plant for vegetable garbage has commenced at the Vrsac City Landfill. The foundation stone was laid Saturday (15 March 2014), and the partner of the Vrsac public utility company Drugi Oktobar on this project is Hyundai Energy, the web portal eVrsac.rs has reported.
Ljubisav Sljivic, the general manager of Drugi Oktobar, welcomed all attendees of the foundation stone laying ceremony by saying that the treatment plant would solve the problem of solid waste faced by the Vrsac municipality. Aforementioned ceremony was was attended by Marek Klimes, the director of Hyundai Energy Europe, Barbora Bartokova, an expert from Hyundai Energy, Dragan Vasiljevic, the director of Hyundai Energy Balkans, Nikola Dumitraskovic, a representative of Hyundai Energy Romania, Dusan Bajatovic, the director of the Srbijagas public company, Jovica Zarkula, the president of the Vrsac City Assembly, and Nikanor, the bishop of Banat.

- In the first phase of this project, 54 people will be hired, and the plan is to have 216 workers in the final phase. Once the work is completed, the problem of trash disposal will be solved not only for Vrsac, but also for municipalities Bela Crkva, Alibunar and Plandiste. An intermunicipal agreement was signed 2008, when the Vrsac City Assembly adopted both regional and municipal waste management plant - said Sljivic.

The Vrsac municipality annually collects 13,000 tonnes of municipal waste with 33 tonnes of garbage being disposed of at the landfill in Vrsac every day. Part of this trash is recycled by Drugi Oktobar.
