RETROSPECTIVE 2013 - Investments in INDUSTRY that attracted greatest attention of eKapija users

The eKapija investment team has recently done an analysis and formed a rank list of investments and investment ideas that attracted the greatest attention of eKapija users in 2013. The results are very interesting, some are expected, but there is a plenty of surprises, which is why we have decided to share this information with you.

We present you the most interesting projects in the category of INDUSTRY.

When an average reader takes a look at our list, he would thought he lives in Switzerland or Germany at least because investors are coming from everywhere and the plants which appear to be the most interesting operate in completely different industries, ranging from water pumps, rocket systems, car components , jewelry and kitchen to light airplane.

The investment totaling EUR 50 mil, Grundfos invested into new facility , is one of the biggest investments in production in Serbia as well as one of the biggest regional investments generally speaking. The new plant, opened in May, expands to 26.000 m2 and presents the first stage of production platform which Grundfos is planning to set up in Serbia. This ranked Grundfos as a global leader in pump production first on our list.

Although the Arab investments are on the increase, not before the partnership with Etihad and Jat, still at the beginning of the year, straight after visit of sheik Bin Zayed, the first step was made. Thus, Jugoimport SDPR and Emirates-based Earth signed the contract on ALAS rocket system development and that investment ranks the second. ALAS (Advanced Light Attack System) is the Serbian rocket system which represents the most ambitious development project of the domestic military industry and presents multi-purpose weapon with a range of 25 to 60 km.

The third ranked is the announced Finish investment in Smederevo. Namely, in November, the First Prime Miniter, Aleksandar Vucic signed a Memorandum on understanding with the Finish PKC Wiring Systems Oy for production of cables in car industry. Representatives of PKC then said that their objective is to start production in Smederevo in rented production section in early 2014. The planned investment totals some EUR 8 mil in fixed assets by the end of 2016. And the company will hire 1.500 people.

Although in 2012 when it comes to popularity in reading industrial sector was flawless, certain silence in 2013 influenced u 2013Zelezara Smederevo reaches the fourth place. The interested parties were the Russians, the Ukrainians, the English and the only thing that has happened so far is the fact that Hot rolling mill started operating two weeks ago. While we are waiting for the Government to generate new plan for selling this company, they say 75% of people who worked in U.S. Steel, are still coming to work.

The fifth ranked is the announced investment of German car giant, Mercedes which should cooperate with Zemun-based Ikarbus. This cooperation implies that in Ikarbus’s sections, all kinds of most modern buses and vans on Mercedes chassis will be produced which would, with maximal engagement of all 280 people, imply engagement a couple of dozens of component producers from entire Serbia. Negotiations are nearing an end and Mercedes is expected in March this year.

During 2002,Kraljevo-based Aero East Europe produced a new plane - SILA 450 C especially adapted for the ultra light airplane market. That was enough to place this investment to the sixth place. eKapija was the first to recognize the importance of this investment so Aero East Europe won last year’s award for Aurea’s investment of the year.

The seventh ranked is Italian Vibac which started construction of the plant for production of industrial packaging belts in Jagodina. Total investment will be EUR 70 mil and the plant will hire 450 people.

The eight ranked is the new section of Trikotaza Ivkovic. In 2012, the company generated growth of 30% and since they do not have expansion capacities, the company is planning to open a new section. They are planning to double production by 2016.

The ninth ranked is Johnson Electric which is planning to open the plant in Nis . Representatives of the City of Nis and the company signed the contract which provides the Hong Kong-based company publicly-owned construction land without compensation for the construction of the plant which totals EUR 15 - 20 mil. The plant will employ around 1.000 people and the production start is announced for June 2015.

Valjevo, Zajecar and Slovenia have one mutual company - Gorenje. The company announcements ranked the tenth. While globally,Gorenje is relocating a part of production from Sweeden to Slovenia, it seems they will invest in our country together with Japanese Panasonic. Namely, their mutual factory of refrigeration devices in Zajecar, totalling EUR EUR 70 mil . The Government of Serbia and Gorenje signed a Pre-contract which implies new investments of the company in Serbia through mutual expansion of household appliances production in Serbia, in plants in Zajecar, Valjevo and Stara Pazova. This will enable engagement of 700 new employees in the next three years as well as production and export increase, the Ministry of finance and economy announced.

The eleventh ranked is the new Odzaci-based company, Magna Seating. Subotica-based Swarowski, investments of Calzedonia into plants in Apatin and Subotica, Mobil Gruppo Turi Cucine which opens furniture plant in Jagodina, plant Elnos BL in Batajnica in line with the licence of Schneider Electric follow.
