The owner of the Mladost tile factory, who bouth Leskovac-based bakery Umi-Pek few months ago, is ready to finance grain production and guarantee purchases, it was announced yesterday.

As it was concluded at a joint conference of Leskovac Mayor Goran Cvetanovic, Milan Prostran, special adviser for agriculture at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Regional Chamber of Commerce Goran Jovic, this is a serious project that would cover about 24,000 farms.

Umi-Pek's silos have a storage capacity of 30,000 tonnes. As it was said at the meeting, the intention of the new owner is to double that capacity in cooperation with local agricultural manufacturers and, thus, become the greatest competitor for the export of grains from the south of Serbia.

- Leskovac earmarks over RSD 180 million for agricultural development on an annual basis, and given that the Leskovac basin has a great potential for husbandry production, the local self-government has decided to support one such offer - Mayor Goran Cvetanovic pointed out.
