JELAŠIĆ: No obstacles to arrival of American Citibank in Serbia

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Radovan Jelašić, commenting the announced opening of the branch of Citibank in Belgrade and claim that this bank would enter the new market only if it buys some strong bank, announced that there was no problem that the new "greenfield" license be issued in the banking sector, but only in case of the most respectable world banks interested in coming to Serbia.

The official request of Citibank for opening of the branch has not been delivered to NBS yet, although, according to Jelašić, the talks have been led about that for few months, both in Belgrade and Singapore.

- The request for opening of the branch will soon arrive and I expect that the branch of Citibank will soon be transformed into the active bank. The fact that, after Budapest and Bucharest where Citibank already operates, it turns to Belgrade represents the certain sign that Serbia is on the right way – Jelašić announced.
