(Milutin Mrkonjic)
Serbian Transportation Minister Milutin Mrkonjic stated that it was not an option to give up the construction of the Novi Sad-Ruma-Sabac highway with a tunnel through Fruska Gora because that project was one of the road infrastructure priorities in our country.
According to the Serbian government's Strategic Plan by 2021 and the Master Plan adopted through consultation with the EU, our priorities are Corridor X, Corridor XI, the Morava transverse road from Krusevac to Kraljevo, and the road from Novi Sad to Sabac via Ruma, Mrkonjic told the press during a visit to the building site of the new Zezelj Bridge on the Danube River in Novi Sad.
The minister reiterated that the road with a tunnel "is in the foreground, and there is no way we will give it up." The Transport Master Plan is already adopted, and no change in any government could change that, he added.
Mrkonjic also noted that the state's debt to road maintenance companies would be settled, adding that RSD 1.3 billion would be set aside for them from special funds on the basis of a corresponding law.
