The first batch of 3,200 Fiat 500L cars to be sold in the U.S. have arrived in Baltimore, from where they will be sent to shops throughout the country.

"The ceremony at the Baltimore port," Tanjug reports, "was attended by Serbia's Ambassador to the U.S. Vladimir Petrovic, former member of the U.S. Congress Hellen Delich Bentley, Fiat officials and port management."

The Italian ship belonging to Grimaldi Lines will continue towards Halifax, Canada, after Baltimore.

The mass production of the 500L model for the North American market began in Kragujevac, in the largest car factory in Southeast Europe, in March.

Petrovic said he was very pleased with the arrival of the first Fiat cars in the U.S. as that could give momentum to exporting other Serbian products to the U.S. too.

Delich Bentley told Tanjug she was "happy because of Serbia's big export deal."

This proves that things are improving, she stated.

Batches of 3,000 vehicles will arrive in the U.S. every two weeks, and there are plans to ship more than 35,000 cars to that country.
