Trade between Serbia and United Arab Emirates at modest level

Foreign trade between Serbia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the first nine months of 2012 was at the level of about USD 23.43 million.

According to the data provided by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, our country recorded a USD 8.8 million trade surplus in that period.

In the period January-September 2012, Serbia's exports to the UAE reached the value of USD 16.11 million, whereas imports were at USD 7.31 million. In 2011, a surplus in the trade between the two countries was recorded by the Emirates, given that Serbia's exports to that country amounted to USD 6.69 million, while imports were worth USD 16.33 million.

During the first months of last year Serbia mainly exported military products, mobile phones, milling equipment, camcorders, cigarettes and beech wood.

In the same period, the UAE was supplying Serbia with the following: polyethylene terephthalate (PET), other aluminum alloy films, heavy oils and other lubricants, polyethylene, motor, compressor, turbine and lubricating oils.

Among the largest Serbian exporters to that country in the Near East were Zastava Arms, Pin Computers from Novi Sad, Wood World Trading from Sremska Mitrovica, Radijator from Zrenjanin, Visual Impact, Monus and Edepro from Belgrade.

The biggest importers were Coca-Cola Hellenic, Alubond Europe, Dinara Romanija PDB, Neochimiki from Belgrade, IGT from Cacak, Toyota Serbia and Galenika Fitofarmacija.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, met with the highest Serbian officials in Belgrade, with whom he talked about the possibilities of improving and developing bilateral relations between Serbia and the UAE.

The talks focused on prospects for the improvement of economic relations between Serbia and the UAE, as well as on intentions for establishing a comprehensive cooperation in the implementation of announced joint projects.
