As a part of its new network strategy that will come into force in the summer of 2013, German airline Air Berlin announced that its Vienna hub would no longer offer flights from Vienna to Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia.

- Air Berlin is promoting its Eastern European services from its hub in the German capital -Air Berlin announced on its website in mid-November.

- As a result, the services from Vienna to Sofia, Bucharest and Belgrade will no longer be offered as non-stop flights from Vienna as of summer 2013, but increasingly transferred to Berlin.

However, the company will not introduce a Berlin-Belgrade flight route.

The company will fly from Berlin to nine destinations in Eastern Europe: Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Budapest, Sofia and Bucharest.

- Our goal is certain: to return Air Berlin to the profit zone in 2013 - said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, the company’s strategy and network planning officer.

The company now operates 12 flights a week to Belgrade.
