DINKIC: We have one of the biggest budget deficits in the history
The budget deficit of Serbia is now one of the biggest in the history of the country, totalling some EUR 2.2 bn, the Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic, said.
He pointed out that the budget situation is much worse than expected and that the deficit exceeded EUR 2 bn, if total of EUR 170 mil, pumped into three state banks, is included.
At the meeting with the artisans, Dinkic said his goal, given the current difficult financial situation, is to provide basic functioning of the country and announced adoption of fiscal consolidation program by the end of September.
The Minister said that filling the current budget deficit will not be an easy task and that this work cannot be done overnight, but also said he had clear plan of how to do it.
According to Dinkic, he would need a month to determine what exactly was done with the budget and whether there is another shortage.
He said Srbijagas is in large deficit due to gas prices differences. Therefore,in the last four years less than EUR 1 bn, which would become public debt, has been accumulated.
