Serbian President Boris Tadic today called parliamentary elections for May 6th, while the final deadline to form a government is September 8th.

At the presidency building in Belgrade, Tadic signed a decree Tuesday setting the vote for the 250-seat national assembly for May 6th.

Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and Vojvodina Assembly Speaker Sandor Egeresi will call local and provincial elections, respectively, today at 2 PM.

The deadline for calling parliamentary and local elections is Tuesday, March 13th.

Political parties now have time until April 21st to submit their election lists for the parliamentary ballot, while the State Election Commission (RIK) will announce the final list of participants five days after that.

The commission will announce the final results of elections within three days of their holding. Within the subsequent 30 days, the Serbian parliament must meet and verify mandates of newly elected MPs.

Since elections have been called for May 6th, the Serbian parliament must meet on June 9th at the latest, while the deadline for a new government to be formed in Serbia is September 8th.
