The number of production facilities in the villages around Ruma, employing 30 to 50 people each, is growing, which prevents young people from moving out from Hrtkovci, Nikinci, Platicevo and other settlements in this municipality in Srem. There are production facilities of Slovenia's Cablex Group, ICM Electronics, Europarketi, and Ekoterm Ignjatovic in the municipality of Ruma, whereas the company Angler from Hrtkovci has announced an investment of EUR 15 million in the construction of a power plant and a EUR 2,2 million investment in the factory of pellets, which should be implemented in association with Czech investors.

- Many investors have decided to invest in rural areas, which is good in a long run because it gives people living in small places more reasons not to move, whereas the opening of new factories represents a great opportunity for young people. A good result would be to have one member of each family working at these plants - Goran Vukovic, mayor of Ruma, says for eKapija.

Another 46 people from the municipality of Ruma have found a job at the company Mitas, which plans to boost the export of tires for agricultural machines to Russia in 2012. The Czech tire manufacturer earlier announced that it would open a new EUR 14 million plant in the following period to increase the production to 450,000 tires a year and hire 200 workers.

As people at the municipal administration announced earlier, another foreign investor is investing in Ruma. It is Holland's IM-Export Bicycles and Parts, which has opened a bicycle assembly plant. The company has announced the employment of 200 citizens of Ruma and the production of bicycles.

Frigo Zika Soko, manufacturer of cooling equipment for the meat, catering and trade industries, has also announced new investments in the construction of a 2,000-square-meter production and the creation of 50 new jobs.

- Over the last year, Ruma has been doing much to get investors familiar with the municipality. We have provided incentives for companies hiring certain number of workers and joined a group of municipalities with a favorable business environment, as well as a group of municipalities granting maximum incentives of EUR 10,000 for each newly created job – says Vukovic.

Industrial zone

When it comes to additional funds earmarked for municipalities, pursuant to the new Law on Financing Local Self-governments, the mayor of Ruma says they plan to invest part of these funds in the development of industrial zones and the rest in the construction of a swimming pool complex.

- The municipality has Rumska Petlja industrial zone, spanning 238 hectares, which is equipped with the most basic infrastructure. We plan to continue to equip this zone. Investors will be offered a free land if they hire certain number of people. The municipality's priority is to attract as many investors as possible to resolve the unemployment problem in Ruma.

Fair in Ruma - flywheel for tourism development

The fair in Ruma is the biggest in the state, and many people say it is even the largest in the Balkans. It is held since 1747. Sellers and buyers from all around Serbia and neighboring countries are coming to Ruma on the third day of every month, 12 times a year, to buy or sell their goods. Up to 30,000 people visit this event.

- We could use the fair in Ruma to develop some form of the fair tourism. This year we founded the Tourism Organization of Ruma, and our intention is to use it to promote tourism potentials that may have not be recognized in the right way to date. We should find a partner to invest in the development of tourism in our municipality.

Ruma plans to have recreational and tourist facilities built in the park forest Borkovac, and people in that municipality also find the protected nature reserve Trskovaca Pond a great potential for the tourism development.
