The Government and the Energy Agency of Catalonia and several Spanish companies decided yesterday to form a group to operate in the field of renewable energy sources in Serbia. That was agreed on Wednesday (October 19, 2011) in Barcelona, at the conference Investment Potentials in the Electric Energy Sector of Serbia.

As Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS) Executive Director Bratislav Ceperkovic explained, Spanish investors led by the Government and the Energy Agency of Catalonia, which are very active in our region, are ready to invest few billion euros in our country and activate the cooperation by signing a MoU on Cooperation with EPS.

We have been talking with very influential, world-renowned investors from Spain over the last two days, which represents a significant progress when compared to previous overall economic relations, said Ceperkovic.

- We should expect a number of Spanish investors to come to Belgrade and Serbia very soon to check out our resources - he stated and added that EPS was ready to guarantee the security of investments to potential strategic partners in the construction of new power plants.

By the way, the management of EPS invited investors from Spain to invest the Serbian electric energy sector and be its partners in the renewable energy projects.

At the conference in Barcelona, where Serbia presented its electric energy potentials, Assistant to the Serbian Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Prodanovic said that the Serbian government had set very favorable rates for using energy from renewable sources.

He added that many potential investors were interested in licenses for various investments in renewable energy sources.

Prodanovic pointed out that investors were mainly interested in the construction of wind farms and mini hydroelectric power plants in Serbia.

Questions regarding projects, types of incentives and legal frameworks were asked by representatives of companies ICEAN, Bassols energia, Estabanell energia, Electra Guardiola, Iberdrola Engineering and Construction, the Institute of Energy of Catalonia, and many others.
