Chinese-European fast rail joint center opens in Indjija

Shang-dong, the joint center of the Chinese-European fast rail system, has opened in Indjija. The occasion is the arrival of the first Chinese train with raw materials for the manufacture of tires at the factory of the company Linglong.

Fast rail has opened new possibilities in Serbia for a better and quicker development of cargo and passenger transport. In addition to ecological advantages, supply efficiency and stability are the main characteristics of the rail transport of goods.

Wang Qifeng, Chairman of Shandong Hi-speed Group, says that the founding of the joint center in Serbia is another milestone in the history of the development of the China-Europe-Shangdong cargo rail transport.

– We are deepening the cooperation of China and Serbia, and our next step will be to rely on this joint center to increase the turnover and accelerate the connection with important hubs in Hungary and Poland – says Qifeng.

Zhe Zhang, the adviser to the ambassador of China to Serbia, points out that, in the old times, bells hanging off camels would ring out on the silk road, and now, he says, it’s the train wheels on the China-Europe rail route.

– As a leading project and a cult brand of the Belt and Road international cooperation, the freight trains of Europe and China have become a popular international product. The founding of this center will additionally enrich the cooperation between Shangdong and Serbia and strengthen the stability of international supply chains – points out Zhang.

Indjija becoming important terminal on route from Europe to China

With the increase and upgrade of the capacities of the intermodal terminal Indjija, Serbia is becoming an important logistics center in this part of Europe.

Martin Koubek, the director of Silk Road and CIS department at Metrans Group, notes that Belgrade, that is, the “Indjija” terminal, became one of the most important terminals in the Metrans Group network last year.

– With pride, we offer our experience and knowledge to our clients and partners in Serbia and the neighboring countries. Metrans gladly invests in Serbia and develops a modern intermodal connection with our network and ports – says Koubek.

The minister of domestic and foreign trade of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, emphasizes that this freight train, which transports the raw materials necessary for the tire factory at the Linglong factory, is one of the biggest investments in our country in the past years.

– As all other freight trains that have traveled the long way from Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary to Serbia, they point to a strong economic partnership and how important Serbia is as a partner to the People’s Republic of China – concludes Momirovic.

Let us remind that Serbia is the first free trade partner of China in central and eastern Europe.
