Construction of tunnel beneath Kadinjaca to begin “from November”

The construction of the tunnel beneath Kadinjaca should begin in November, because, as the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said, the documentation is being completed.

– From November, we are starting the construction of the tunnel beneath Kadinjaca. We are completing the project by the end of October and we are starting the construction immediately – pointed out Vucic, who has been visiting this part of Serbia for several days now.

– As soon as November, we will sign the agreement for the commencement of the works with the company which is to do this. The construction of the Uzice ring road is beginning, and we are completing the project for the tunnel beneath Jabukovnica by March, so that traveling to Valjevo and Belgrade would be made easier to everybody – said Vucic.

As he added, following the fast route to Loznica, the project documentation for the fast route Loznica-Mali Zvornik is to be prepared.

– Another 21 kilometers and you will have a de facto highway to Belgrade – he emphasized.

As he noted, one of the ideas is to link the new bridge beneath Mali Zvornik to the fast route to Mali Zvornik. Vucic also announced that, by March, the project for the tunnel beneath Azbukovica would be completed.

Let us remind that, in early March 2023, the Ministry of Environmental Protection notified the public that it had given approval to the environmental impact assessment study of the project of the construction of a tunnel at the Kadinjaca pass. The project of the construction of the tunnel beneath the Kadinjaca pass, which had been announced several times, and which would shorten the road from Bajina Basta to Uzice by 6 kilometers, had been waiting for a “green permit” since August 2022, and the location requirements had been issued back in 2019.

The biggest effect of the tunnel, for which a speed of 80 km/h is projected, will be the avoidance of the series of sharp turns on the road across Kadinjaca, which is in a bad condition, on the section where snowfall regularly causes traffic problems.

As announced earlier, the investment in the construction of the future tunnel, 1,350 meters long, is EUR 60 million, and according to earlier announcements, the works were going to be done by the Chinese company POWERCHINA, but as Vucic says now, it remains to be seen whether it will be a Chinese, Turkish or some other company, along with Serbian subcontractors.

The current authorities have announced the beginning of the construction of this tunnel several times in the past year, but nothing has been done on the site so far.
