Djedovic Handanovic: The French will help us with nuclear power plants, EDF is the best partner

Serbia is looking for partners in the world which are the best in certain fields, and the French multinational electric utility company EDF is the biggest nuclear operator in the world, with a unique experience throughout the entire life cycle of nuclear power plants, said the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

In an interview for the Vecernje Novosti daily, she said that documents on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy had been signed in the presence of the presidents of Serbia and France, Aleksandar Vucic and Emmanuel Macron during their most recent meetings in Paris and Belgrade, proving the importance of that field in the overall bilateral cooperation.

– Based on the signed Memorandum, which creates the framework for a long-term dialogue in the field of energy transition, a document on cooperation in estimating the potentials for the development of a program for peacetime application of nuclear energy in Serbia was signed – said Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

According to her, with the signing of the Memorandum with representatives of five ministries and 20 faculties, science institutions and energy companies in July this year in the field of the implementation of the development of nuclear energy in Serbia, an important step was made toward unifying the local expert and science communities.

– We expect to get support from EDF, primarily in the exchange of knowledge and experiences to the end of strengthening local experts, and technical assistance in establishing a legal framework in the field of nuclear energy – explained Djedovic Handanovic.
