Serbian President Boris Tadic, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic and Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic attended today the opening of the new bridge near Beska, on the northern arm of Corridor 10.

The Beska bridge on the Belgrade-Horgos motorway is 2.2 kilometers long, 15 meters wide, and 55 meters above the water.

This is the longest bridge over the Danube in Europe, and its appearance is no different from the adjacent old bridge, just five meters away.

A total of 67,000 cubic meters of concrete, 9,700 tonnes of reinforced concrete, 14,000 meters of piles, and 47.6 kilometers of cables are built in the new bridge.

The contractor, Alpine from Austria, kicked off the construction of the bridge in 2008.

The agreed value of the works on this bridge on E-75 road was €33.7 million, and they were financed from a loan of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The bridge near Beska was opened for traffic in the presence of the construction workers from Serbia, Austria and another 15 countries.

A new 100-meter bridge over Arkanj canal, on the Novi Sad side of the Danube, was also opened for traffic today.
