DNA model made in Belgrade goes for Guinness record!
Two days before Researchers' Night, the world's longest origami model of DNA was made at Republic Square in Belgrade, and it is expected to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
The author of the origami DNA model and a famous bioinformatician, professor Alex Bateman, supervised the assembling of the longest DNA chain. This record-breaking action was also supervised by Dr. Gordana Matic, scientist and lecturer, who introduced many generations of students to the secrets of DNA molecules.
- For more than two hours, the researchers from the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, their colleagues, students, primary and secondary school students and afternoon walkers were assembling a DNA model made of papers in all colors. We all together made a chain over 247.44 meters long, thus meeting the condition for admission into the Guinness Book of World Records - said Prof. Dr. Sonja Pavlovic, IMGGI scientific adviser and the chief coordinator of the Researchers' Night project.
