Who will use the newly built facilities of EXPO complex after 2027? – Part for the needs of the Belgrade Fair, national pavilion later as a museum or exhibition space

There are currently around 1,000 workers in the area where the facilities for EXPO 2027 are being built. The deputy director of the Building Directorate of Serbia, Boban Velickovic, points out that, on 212 hectares in Surcin, facilities necessary for the organization of EXPO 2027 are being built, and that, after the World Expo, a part of them will be used for the needs of the Belgrade Fair.

He points out that the planning of the construction of apartments is in the final phase and that they expect the construction to begin by the beginning of October.

As he said, when it comes to the national pavilion, in the future, it will be meant for “some kind of a museum or exhibition space.”

– There will also be other facilities, which will not be directly in the function of the fair, but in the function of the society as a whole – said Velickovic.

When it comes to the workers whose jobs are related to this complex, he said that many of them were not directly present on the construction site.

– There are quarries, sand borrow pits, suppliers of various construction materials which are hired in other locations – pointed out Velickovic.

He also noted that many jobs were mechanized – trucks, loaders, excavators are on the site, but when the finishing works start, there will be at least several thousand craftsmen directly in the location. Velickovic points out that there are also plenty of foreign workers on the terrain, since there is a lack of workforce in the market.

He expects the works in Surcin to have a positive impact on the construction industry.

– The price of labor is jumping in a way, because the demand is bigger, but it will have an influence in the sense that everybody who wants to work will certainly be able to get a job – estimated Velickovic.

Talking about the construction of the dolphinarium, Velickovic said that it was a demanding facility, because there would be plenty of water, requiring special processing of concrete and glass.
