City of Belgrade and the public utility company (PUC) Gradske Pijace have announced a public invitation for strategic and financial investors to submit a letter of intent stating their interest in joining the ownership-management structure of the company Veletrznica Beograd d.o.o.

The aim is to determine the number of potential investors and prepare for a successful capital increase through selection of most prospective investors. For this project, the city of Belgrade will provide land and accompanying infrastructure, as well as certain amount of money.

The intention of the city of Belgrade and PUC Gradske Pijace is to ensure the development of adequate infrastructure and facilities for wholesale trade in fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and fish within a wholesale market, of which establishment is prescribed by the Law on Trade.

A wholesale market will be built on a 18.5-hectare lot in New Belgrade (Block 53). The wholesale market complex will be comprised of halls for fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, and flowers. All facilities will be built in accordance with food safety standards. Retail and storage space will be air-conditioned.

Introduction of internal quality policies of the Belgrade wholesale market, as well as price defining by categories described in the policy, will represent a basis for the food market, and companies registered with the wholesale market will be able to supply products to the public sector at the prices that are lower or the same as the market prices on the day of delivery.

The wholesale market is also planned to comprise an educational center for training and cooperation between traders and manufacturers.

Potential investors will enjoy numerous benefits offered by the wholesale market as the largest regional logistics center for exchange, import and export of fruits, vegetables, flowers, meat and fish.
