Project underway to convert the existing 1,000 km of highways into smart highways - Hydrogen fueling stations near Serbian border crossings
At the opening of the congress of the South East European Freight Forwarders Association, he indicated that work is underway to convert the existing 1,000 kilometers of highways into smart highways, in order to enable the use of advanced technologies.
- The Government of Serbia invests a lot in the development of infrastructure, because this is where we see the possibility of generating gross domestic product. We are also working on the preparation of the Law on Infrastructure for Alternative Fuels, which will be adopted by the end of this year - announced Vesic, adding that it is part of our obligations from the accession agenda towards the European Union and we will try to follow all trends when it comes to traffic.
He also reiterated that the tender that will enable the installation of 320 electric chargers on highways in Serbia has been completed.
Vesic also pointed out that the construction of a 230 km high-speed railway between Belgrade and Nis will commence by the end of 2024, and that a high-speed railway from Brestovac to Presevo is currently being planned with the European Union. He also stated that an extension of the high-speed railway to Skopje by 50 km has been agreed with the Government of North Macedonia. Hence, according to him, Budapest, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Nis, Skopje will be connected by high-speed rail.
- We have not forgotten the reconstruction of regional railways, which are just as important. So far, we have reconstructed 840 kilometers of railways, and we have another 2,000 kilometers to go - said Vesic.
He pointed out that the reconstruction of the railway between Sabac and Zvornik, section of the Belgrade-Sarajevo railway, is also underway, and that the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Bar railway in the part through Serbia has been completed.
