Strabag to halt works on Gazela bridge - EIB not to grant additional EUR 25 million loan because of insufficient care for Roma people
As Press daily learns, reconstruction of the busiest bridge and the main traffic artery of Belgrade will be discontinued next Saturday! The European Investment Bank (EIB) has informed Putevi Srbije (Roads of Serbia) that it won`t grant additional EUR 25 million loan for the completion of works on Gazela bridge.
They have decided to make that move because all displaced Roma people who earlier lived underneath the bridge did not get the apartments of the appropriate size! The EIB also forwarded its decision to the contractor Strabag, which afterwards announced that it would halt all the works on the reconstruction of the most important junction in Belgrade on Saturday, July 16th.
