Atanackovic: Diesel Fuel to Cost 210 Instead of 204, and Petrol 195 Instead of 189 Dinars Due to Higher Excise Taxes
He said for the Beta news agency that, since February 2021, excise taxes had not been harmonized with the excise tax calendar, that is, that they hadn’t been increased, but occasionally reduced in various amounts of up to around 15%.
– Based on the increase of the excise tax and the taxes, upon the adoption of the law, diesel fuel should cost around RSD 210 per liter, and petrol should cost RSD 195 – Atanackovic told Beta.
Two days ago, the Government of Serbia adopted the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Excise Taxes, which proposes an increase in the excise taxes on petroleum products, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, coffee and liquids for the filling of electronic cigarettes by 8%. The law will apply from October 1, 2023, except that some stipulations are planned to come into effect later.
The explanation of the bill says that the increase in excise taxes, as a special tax, will increase budget revenues by around RSD 4 billion by the end of 2023.
Atanackovic said that the delaying of the increase of the excise taxes by around two years had helped keep the inflation down and that the announced increase would not lead to its decrease and that it could instead cause a price increase chain reaction.
He added that he hoped that the price of oil would not grow in the world market, as that would additionally raise the prices of petroleum products.
