Sufficient reserves of natural gas, oil and oil products have been secured for the upcoming winter, but the aim is to also additionally expand the accommodation capacities in order to reduce risks from disturbances in the market, said the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic, on TV Happy.

– In Hungary, we have stored an additional 220 million cubic meters of gas, a total of 560 million, which is enough for close to 60 days of consumption in the heating season – she pointed out, according to the website of the Government of Serbia.

Talking about oil and oil product reserves owned by the state and oil companies, the minister said that there were enough of them for close to 90 days.

According to her, investments in RES are planned, as is the construction of new hydro power plants Bistrica and Djerdap 3, six solar power plants with a capacity of up to 1 GW and large wind farms.

Djedovic, however, warned that, in Serbia, coal was the main energy source and that thermal power plants couldn’t be shut down before a replacement was in place and added that, due to that, the plan was to rehabilitate some thermal capacities so as to comply with the environmental standards.
