Srpska Fabrika Stakla (SFS) in Paracin has announced that it has presented its workers with the repair plan following the damage done to the central glassmaking furnace at the end of March this year and the consequently reduced production rate. The plan, as said, envisages the carrying out of all the necessary activities so that SFS would be able to launch the investment in the new furnace as soon as the second half of 2024 and, as a result of that, once again increase its production, while at the same time securing stable operations of the company in the meantime.

The beginning of the assembly works for the new furnace is planned for the first quarter of 2024, and the value of the investment is estimated at over EUR 40 million.

– In the meantime, the company, together with the agency, will carry out the program of letting go the surplus workers, upon whose completion, in the period until the new furnace is put into operation, around 380 jobs will be kept, and new employments are expected to start in the second half of 2024 – the announcement says.

They add that the beginning of production in the new furnace, a gradual increase of the production to 280 tons per month and new employments are to follow.

In the meantime, the company will operate at a reduced production rate – 53 tons a day, which is close to 30% of the current capacity.

– Our joint task is to actively cooperate on realizing the common goal in the coming months and years: the modernization and increase of the production, whereby we will secure a successful development of SFS Paracin in the coming decades. Staklara Hrastnik and Global Glass see Paracin as a long-term strategic investment, which requires investments in technology and in people and their knowledge. We at the management are well aware of it – pointed out Peter Cas, the CEO of SFS and Staklarna Hrastnik, and Saso Djaip, the managing director of SFS.
