Record Number of Chinese Tourists in Serbia

In the first four months of this year, Chinese tourists increased the number of overnights stays in Serbia by as much as 45% compared to the same period in 2019, when there were the most guests from China, said the state secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, Uros Kandic.

– This is the best possible indication that, in 2023, we will have a record-setting tourist traffic with China – Kandic said for Beta.

He specified that, from January through April 2023, Chinese tourists had realized over 78,000 overnight stays, an increase of 45% compared to the same period in the final pre-pandemic year.

– We have exceeded the results from 2019, although the Chinese authorities didn’t enable groups travels to Serbia for their citizens until March – Kandic said.

As he said, in addition to staying in Belgrade and Novi Sad, Chinese tourists now travel through the countryside a lot.

– For example, we have had a tourist group which stayed in our country for 14 days – Kandic added.

He pointed out that the Chinese market was the highest priority for Serbia and that good results from nearly all outbound markets had been recorded there, as shown by the growth of the number of overnight stays of foreign guests by more than 30% in the first four months of 2023.

– The data of the relevant international institutions in tourism also show that, in this year, compared to the pre-pandemic period, Serbia is among the leaders in Europe when it comes to international tourism revenues and visits by foreign guests – Kandic said.
