On Friday, in the brand-new industrial zone in Popovac, near Nis, the first birthday of the MBOX intermodal terminal was marked by a celebration attended by over 100 clients and associates. This event marked the first year of successful management of the MBOX company, the most modern terminal of this type in Serbia and the region.

Intermodal terminals are increasingly common in the logistics profession and are considered a key factor in the further development of logistics networks because they efficiently combine various types of goods transport in an economical and environmentally sustainable way.

- Today we celebrate the first year of successful operation of the MBOX intermodal terminal with our friends and business partners, and we are extremely proud and grateful to have such strong support from the logistics industry of this region. It was with such support that we managed to accept over 120 container trains and carry out more than 16,000 official trans-shipments in the first year without any major difficulties. We are also in the process of obtaining a permit for the transshipment and accommodation of containers with dangerous goods according to RID and ADR standards, then the procurement of a new reachstacker, whereas next year we expect the expansion of the center in the form of two large halls with 15,000 m2 each - said the executive director of MBOX Dejan Nikolic.

When the MBOX terminal was put into operation last year, the Milsped company was guided by the idea, that this part of Serbia needed a logistics center like this to bring new logistics solutions, reduce transport costs, influence the positive development of the entire region and bring new investments to the south and central Serbia. In the new industrial zone in Popovac, a new railroad intermodal terminal was constructed according to the latest European standards, thus enabling this logistics center to serve the entire gravity zone - approximately 50,000 TEUs per year.

Positioned on an ideal location, on the route of Corridor 10, the junction between east and west, in terms of logistics, MBOX is in the immediate vicinity of large and important ports in the entire region. This way, all clients of MBOX Terminal can do business through Greek, Turkish, Slovenian and Croatian ports and terminals.

Therefore, a high level of container transport efficiency is guaranteed, and this claim is supported by the fact that the terminal is located right next to the Nis Shunting Station, the second largest in Serbia, which makes it easy to accommodate trains, and even more important is the quicktransshipment itself at dedicated MBOX track, guaranteeing valuable time and resource savings.

With a storage capacity of over 2,700 containers and a dedicated parking lot for trucks and cars, the official customs terminal has modern access control systems, a large number of surveillance cameras with the additional presence of physical security 24/7. Security is set to an even higher level through NAVIS's TOS (terminal operating system) system, which records the current location of each container in real time. In addition, terminal users such as shippers or freight forwarders can receive real-time details about the position and movement of their containers through the EDI connection.

Regardless of whether it is a tank container, a "swap body" container or an intermodal semi-trailer, the MBOX terminal ensures fast transshipment from truck to wagon and vice versa. Reloading is done with modern Reach stacker machinery, and after the operation, the customer can check the status of his container through the E-business application. As of recently, the terminal is in the process of obtaining permits for transshipment and storage of containers with dangerous goods: RID and ADR.

Also, those present at the celebration of the first birthday of the MBOX intermodal terminal were able to learn about the future plan for the additional expansion of business activities by introducing new railway services (Ljubljana-Nis and Turkey-Nis) as well as the construction of storage spaces, making this logistics center one of the largest in this region by far, which opens up opportunities for new efficient logistics solutions for the benefit of clients.
