Details of the Belgrade Philharmonic Concert Hall project - "Green permit" requested for the construction of a 60,000 m2 facility
Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A) from London won the international competition for the architectural solution of the hall.
The concert hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic will have four main concert halls - a large symphony concert hall with 1,600 seats, a chamber hall with 400 seats, a creative center with a studio and a podium outdoor stage.
The four concert halls should surround the public social space that will form the center of the Belgrade concert hall, divided into two levels connected to the park outside. Common auxiliary and production facilities, including the commercial and logistics part, will be located below the social space.
A one-story public garage with 325 parking spaces is planned on the underground level.
In its current state, the site contains the foundations of the Museum of the Revolution, scheduled for removal.
The facility is designed in such a way, that pedestrian access can be achieved from the three surrounding streets - Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, Uscee Street and Nikola Tesla Boulevard. Visitors will walk through the park to reach the entrance on all four sides. Cars will be able to park in the underground garage located in the basement floor.
Inside the building, the basement level is divided into two sections, one section is intended for a large underground garage and a physically separated second section for a loading area with a waste disposal room, technical rooms and warehouses. In addition, technical spaces are provided underneath the Concert Hall and the Chamber Hall.
In the lower level, the northeastern part of the base towards Nikola Tesla Boulevard is an open public space. Here is the entrance, the main levels of the Podium and the studio located within the Creative Center. Other facilities such as cafes, ticket offices, cloakrooms, toilets, and shops are also located here. Most of the lower level area is given to the backrooms serving the four concert spaces, including a dedicated artist entrance, dressing rooms, musical instrument stores and other technical areas.
The ground floor has three public entrances located between the concert halls. This level is an open public space that allows the audience access to the Concert and Chamber Halls. There will also be bars, toilets, shops. The Creative Center includes facilities such as instrument repair shops and accompanying music retail stores, a supervised playground and an archival museum. Behind the Studio are the offices overlooking the park.
On the first floor, the four volumes are completely separated. The creative center includes offices facing the park and practice rooms overlooking the central social area. The Concert Hall is primarily a balcony foyer area, with toilets and a bar. There are also additional dressing rooms for visiting orchestras on this level. The chamber hall has no seating on this level and it serves only as access to the technical balcony.
On the second floor is the Creative Center restaurant with its own roof terrace facing the Great War Island. The concert hall primarily consists of a balcony foyer, with a bar and toilets, but it also includes a VIP lounge.
The highest balcony foyer of the Concert Hall is on the third floor, and the other levels, part of the third and all of the fourth and fifth floors, are intended for technical rooms, rooms with mechanical equipment and similar areas where free access is not allowed.
The project clients are UNDP (United Nations Development Program) and the Ministry of Public Investments, through the engaged local partner in the project, Zabriskie Studio from Belgrade, entrusted the preparation of the Request for Decision on the Need for Environmental Impact Assessment to the company ECOlogica URBO DOO from Kragujevac.
The deadline for public review and submission of opinions regarding the project holder's request is June 8, 2023.
To remind our readers, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) recently announced a tender for the design and execution of geological surveys in order to define hydro and geothermal resources (underground water and petrogeothermal resources) potential, as renewable energy sources for use in heating, air conditioning and cooling systems, preparation of sanitary hot water and for irrigation of the new concert hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic.
The planned location is right next to the Palace Serbia, for which geological investigations of underground water have already been carried out for various purposes.
Last summer, during the presentation of the conceptual solution, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced that the construction of the new concert hall will begin this year, on the centenary of the Belgrade Philharmonic.
