Two monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Diocese of Vranje, have acquired the status of buyers-producers (prosumers) of electricity.

The monastery of Saint Father Nicholas in Vranje and the monastery of Saint Martyr and Archdeacon Stefan in Gornje Zapsko near Vranje have been entered in the Register of customers-producers by the Electric Distribution Company of Serbia, the website of the Association of Renewable Energy Sources of Serbia reports.

In the process of acquiring the status of prosumer, both monasteries had solar power plants installed, each with a power of 10 kW.

The total power of all customers-producers in the Registers of Electric Distribution of Serbia, including households, residential communities and legal entities, is currently 13.3 MW, which is an increase of 500kW in a period of just 14 days.

The interest in connecting to the network by potential buyers is huge, and the number of requests has even reached a power of 2 GW. Due to the overload of distribution system operator, who sent comments on the proposal of the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources, a provision was included in the draft act that will limit the power of prosumers to 150 kW in the case of legal entities and 6.9 kW for households.

- Such a provision caused the reaction of certain companies and numerous organizations, and, as was heard from the representative of the Ministry of Mining and Energy at the Western Balkans - Spain Forum, these measures will be mitigated by certain amendments before being adopted in the Assembly - this website states.
