Copy linkFirst Accredited Laboratory for Wine Quality Testing Opens in Sumadija
At the Institute for Information Technologies of the University of Kragujevac, the first accredited laboratory for the testing of wine quality has opened in Sumadija.
The winemakers of Sumadija have so far mostly tested the quality of their products in accredited houses in Vrsac, Aleksandrovac and Belgrade.
The rector of the University of Kragujevac, Nenad Filipovic, said that the new laboratory had national and international accreditation, that it was computerized and that it used the most modern methods.
The director of the Institute for Information Technologies, Zoran Markovic, said that the idea about the opening of the lab arose primarily because of the sudden increase in wine production in Sumadija.
He said that 12 methods of wine quality testing were accredited in the laboratory and that an expansion was planned as well.
The plan, Markovic said, is for the laboratory to also test antioxidants in wine, because it has been determined that, in the French province of Champagne, which fosters the cult of having a glass of wine with a meal, there are much fewer cases of cardiovascular diseases.
The president of the Association of Winemakers of Sumadija, Sasa Novakovic, said that, in two years, in the area of Sumadija, the number of wineries had doubled.
– Of the 51 members of our association, ten are viticulturists and 41 are wineries, which are located in four vineyard areas: Oplenac, Krnjevo, Raca and Kragujevac – Novakovic said and added that the obligation of winemakers was to have the wine chemically analyzed and get a sensory rating in accredited laboratories before putting it in the market.
