The 55th International Motor Show and the 15th International Motorcycle Show “Motopassion” have opened in Belgrade.

This year’s International Motor Show has gathered 250 exhibitors, which will present 33 car brands and seven light vehicle brands, with over 40 premieres. At “Motopassion”, there are 60 exhibitors this year, with over 40 motorcycle, quad bike and scooter brands and a large number of motorcycle equipment brands.

The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, said at the opening of the fair that the previous year had been challenging regarding the automotive industry due to problems with the supply and purchase of parts and the production of cars.

– To us as a ministry, it is very important to secure the conditions for the automotive industry to develop. We continue paying subsidies when it comes to electric cars, which is done by the Ministry of Environmental Protection – Vesic said.

According to him, the ministry plans to install around 100 new electric vehicle chargers on highways and fast routes, and the amendments to the Law on Planning and Construction plan the implementation of the obligation of a certain number of spaces having electric chargers when raising buildings, depending on whether it’s a residential or an office building.

As Vesic said, the obligation of having an EV charger at each gas station is to be implemented as well.

In the next two years, he said, highways will also get solar panels which will also act as protection from noise.

The president of the Serbian Association of Vehicle and Parts Importers, Aleksandra Djurdjevic, said that, in Serbia, there was an insufficient availability of vehicles and that there was a great pressure on producers and importers due to the producers’ shifting to hybrid models.

She emphasized that Serbia needed good infrastructure for such vehicles and expressed satisfaction that the Government of Serbia had approved a bigger budget for 2023 for subsidies for the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles.
