Beginning of Construction of Fast Route Through Banat and Backa 175 Kilometers Long Announced for This Year

The construction of the Ib-grade fast route from the Backi Breg border crossing with Hungary to the Nakovo border crossing with Romania, that is, from Sombor to Kikinda, 175 kilometers long, which will last for the next two to three years, will begin this year, said the president of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirovic.

– Together with the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure, Goran Vesic, representatives of the Corridors of Serbia, the Roads of Serbia, all the local self-governments which are located on the route of the road – Sombor, Kula, Vrbas, Srbobran, Becej, Novi Becej – and the designers, we have defined the goals and the tasks for this big and important job for the whole Serbia, especially for northern Vojvodina – he said after the meeting of the work group for the monitoring of the realization of this project.

According to Mirovic, the works on this traffic route are to begin at the section from Backi Breg toward Sombor.

– The Government of Serbia has prepared the necessary procedures for the works on the construction of this traffic route to begin in the first half of the year – Mirovic emphasized.

Vesic stated that the traffic route would be the driving engine of the development of Vojvodina.

– We have formed a joint work group and this is an example of how things should be done. This road will change the lives of people in northern Vojvodina, secure new investments, new jobs, the development of tourism and all other industries, and it will also be the fastest connection between one part of Romania and Hungary – Vesic said and emphasized that, in the coming years, Vojvodina was looking at big infrastructural investments.

The minister expressed his expectation that the agreement on the construction of the Belgrade - Zrenjanin - Novi Sad would also be signed in 2023, as announced on the website of the Provincial Government.
