The installation of modern equipment for the production of electric vehicles whose beginning has been announced for 2024 is underway at the Stellantis car plant in Kragujevac, according to the Autonomous Trade Union of the factory. According to the president of that trade union, Sasa Djordjevic, workers from companies from several countries are hired for the installation of the equipment, whereas the workers from Kragujevac have the usual tasks on the jobs which precede the new production activities.
Djordjevic says that he doesn’t know when the installation of the new equipment began exactly, but adds that the works were already underway when the workers returned from the collective vacation on January 23.
The Kragujevac car plant has around 500 workers left of the total number of 2,016, which is how many worked before a social program was carried out in the summer of 2022.
Djordjevic said that a group of around 20 Fiat workers from Kragujevac had gone to Poland on Saturday, where, having accepted Fiat’s offer, they would work for the next 11 months.
They are hired at Fiat’s factory in the city of Tychy, where Fiat 500 is produced.
That is the first group of workers from Kragujevac to go to work in Poland.
Four groups of workers from Kragujevac went to Slovakia last year, and jobs at the Stellantis factory in Trnava are secured for those workers.
