Serbia Zijin Copper doo Bor plans to maximally expand the uncovering of the Borska Reka site within the Jama mine to the level of the confirmed ore reserves.
According to the request for deciding on the necessity of the environmental impact assessment study of the project of the opening of the Borska Reka site to the cote K-455 which Serbia Zijin Copper has filed to the Ministry of Environment, the exploitation of the ore from the Borska Reka is currently done to K-235 m.
The Borska Reka site is the biggest and deepest site within the Bor mining field. It is located in the drainage basin of the Bor River (Borska Reka), northwest from the existing open-pit mine.
As Novosti wrote back in 2019, when Zijin commenced, in cooperation with the Bor Institute for Mining and Metallurgy, the preparation of the main mining project of the exploitation of the underground stie Borska Reka, the estimates are that this location hides reserves of nearly four million tons of copper, 130 tons of gold and over 1,000 tons of silver, whose value exceeds USD 30 billion.
It is also said that it is assumed that Borska Reka hides much more than the so far confirmed reserves of around 320 million tons of ore – even over a billion tons, with an average content of 1% copper, which is nearly three times as much as in the RTB mines that are currently exploited.
– Data from 2002 also shows what an attractive site Borska Reka is, whose minerology resembles that of the Cukaru Peki underground copper mine. That’s when the World Bank, before opening the first tender for the sale of RTB, published a study according to which the future of local mining should be based on the exploration and exploitation of that site – Novosti reported.
