The Ministry of Environmental Protection has opened the tender for the revising of the list of priorities and the harmonization with the current report on examining the historical waste in Serbia.

According to the specification of the job, the report from April 2019 provides the data on the quantities and the type of waste in certain locations, accrued during the active operations of business entities. As many of them have stopped working or are in bankruptcy, the task of taking care of and treating the accrued waste has been taken over by the Republic of Serbia.

– Said report lists eight companies in order of priority. In the meantime, certain activities toward taking care of the waste were carried out, which has led to a change in the quantities of the historical waste (reduction or full removal of hazardous waste in some companies) – the documentation says. It is added that, following the public procurement procedure that was carried out in June 2021 and the signing of the agreement, it was determined that 40 business entities had been listed in the first phase of the activities regarding the quantities and the types of waste.

The project task, therefore, is to make a list of priorities based on the submitted data on the quantities and the type of waste in these business entities, the majority of which, it is said, are in bankruptcy.

The tender expires on February 14.

Historical waste is in fact hazardous industrial waste, improperly stored for years and left behind by former business giants which were either privatized or went into bankruptcy in the 2000s.
