The Nis Constantine the Great Airport, with 390,000 passengers last year, is starting this year by announcing new projects aiming to improve the conditions. However, this airport will lose one of its most popular destinations from February, namely Bergamo, that is, Milan. The removal of this line is explained by the Irish low-cost carrier with commercial reasons.

Among the passengers on one of the last flights to Bergamo, there are many of those who have been using this line since it was launched in 2016.

– I am very surprised that they are canceling this line and disappointed, because I have lived in Milan for 20 years and I use the line, or my parents use it, or me and my sister, as we are there at least once a month – says Sanja Milenkovic from Milan.

Dejan Janicijevic doesn’t understand why this line is being discontinued either.

– Allegedly, it’s due to some commercial reasons, some kind of an empty plane, and you can see for yourself what a big crowd there is here, there are people traveling who are coming from the whole Serbia, from the region – Janicijevic said.

At the Nis Constantine the Great Airport, they say that they can’t do anything about the commercial reasons that the Irish low-cost carrier has cited.

– We are, of course, making suggestions and providing proof as to why we think a destination might be profitable. This will certainly not jeopardize our operations, because in this winter season we have some 13 additional lines, we have three summer destinations – says the director of the airport, Dusan Knezevic.

This year, the Nis Airport expects 450,000 passengers, so that it would exceed its most successful year, 2019, by 30,000 – however, without those who would travel to Milan.
