The minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic, and the minister of energy and infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Suhail Al Mazroui, agreed in Abu Dhabi the signing of the Memorandum on Cooperation in the development of hydrogen as a new energy source and a continuation of the cooperation in renewable energy sources, the ministry announced today.

At the meeting, it was estimated that the cooperation of Serbia and the UAE was growing in the field of energy and that the next step in upgrading the cooperation was to exchange the experiences and expert and technical knowledge when it comes to the use of hydrogen as an energy source, the press release says.

– Hydrogen is an energy source of the future, which will enable cleaner energy with less of an environmental impact. The UAE have the knowledge, development technologies and companies which, on the foundations of the friendly relations of our two countries and leaders, presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, already operate in Serbia in the field of RES and can be important partner for us in the further development of RES, but also green and blue hydrogen as a new energy source in our energy system – Djedovic stated.

She pointed out that the use of RES potentials was an important instrument in raising the energy security of Serbia, as well as in reaching the vision of climate neutrality, which is one of the key global challenges.

– The most significant result of the cooperation of Serbia and the UAE so far is the Cibuk 1 Wind Farm, which produces green energy which can supply 113,000 households. This year, we will also start building Cibuk 2, with a power of 150 MW. We will probably not stop there, because companies from the UAE are also interested in projects in solar energy, in which they have great experience – Djedovic said.
