Belgrade is the most expensive city in terms of living costs in the region, followed by Budva in Montenegro and Tirana in Albania. The costs of living in Belgrade are 42.5% of the costs of living in New York, whereas Tirana is at 41% – which is an increase by 3.7 points compared to the previous years.

Although Tirana ranks as the cheapest in Europe, it is expensive for the local populace. The ever-increasing costs and the inflation have pushed thousands of people to the precipice of poverty. At the moment, half the populace is either in poverty or in risk of falling into poverty, Euractiv reports.

When it comes to the costs of living in Europe, the top of the list features Basel, Zurich and Lausanne in Switzerland. Among the top cities are places in Norway, namely, Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromso, whereas other high-ranking cities in Europe are Copenhagen in Denmark, Espoo in Finland, Dublin in Ireland and Nice in France.

Among the cheapest cities to live in are Nis, Tuzla and Craiova (Romania).
