Fresenius Medical Care hemodialysis hospital opened in Nis
Ms. Karanovic said on that occasion that over 15,000 patients throughout Serbia were treated for kidney disorders every year, 4,500 of whom were in the need of hemodialysis.
She noted that the capacity of 57 state health institutions was insufficient, adding that five newly opened Fresenius centres would greatly facilitate the treatment of such patients.
- The government will consider a kidney disease control programme and the development of a hemodialysis and transplantation programme, which will enable Serbia to adopt standards in this field in line with those of the EU - Ms. Karanovic announced.
As she said, there are currently 300 patients receiving hemodialysis in Nis and the capacity of the new hospital is over 100 patients in two shifts.
Mr. Maas announced that Germany would ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia during the week, adding that Serbia was on the path to modernization and integration into all European structures.
Serbia is not alone on this path of challenges, he said, adding that the economic cooperation between their countries is improving and that Fresenius’ investment in hemodialysis equipment alone exceeds €3 million.
The hemodialysis hospital in Nis is part of the Serbian health insurance system. It has 32 hemodialysis apparatuses and it spans 1,226 square meters.
