Euro Lithium Balkans announced today that it is planning to research the geothermal resource in the Valjevo-Mionica Basin. The basic idea, as said, is based on the results of the Study on the Hydrogeothermal Potential of the Valjevo-Mionica Basin, prepared by the Hydrogeology Department of the Faculty of Mining and Geology in Belgrade at the initiative of that company.

In line with that, the preparation of projects for exploring the possibilities of using the geothermal resource to the end of producing heating energy that could be used in the central heating system in Valjevo, as well as for the potential use in processes related to the technological processes of the potential mineral resource site, has started as well.

The potential, according to the Study, is big enough and can exceed the capacity of the Heating Plant in Valjevo.

The preparation of the project documentation, which has already been submitted to the ministry, the technical control and the execution of the research works, the preparation of exploration-production wells, as well as the Study on the Reserves of the Geothermal Resource, is to be financed by Euro Lithium Balkan fully from their own funds.

– All the results and structures following the research, according to the project worth around a million euros, will be put at the city’s disposal without any fee – the announcement says.

It is added that the research is a special kind of hydrogeological research and that it is not used to get results related to geological research of the mineral resource of boron and lithium that the company does in the area of the Valjevo-Mionica Basin.

The projects were presented at the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), as well as the Regional Chamber of the Macva and Kolubara District. The possibilities which are opening with the realization of the projects, as said, were met with understanding in both chambers, and through contacts with the United Stated Agency for International Development (USAID) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), that is, their associates, it has been defined that there’s also an interest from their side as well to support putting the geothermal resource into function.

Considering that the successful realization of the projects requires cooperation from city institutions, Euro Lithium Balkan has notified the city administration and asked for a meeting, on which no feedback has been provided yet.

– The realization, that is, putting this resource into function, would bring energy independence to the city heating plant, and the switching from fossil fuels to this fully ecologically safe source of energy would ensure a considerable reduction of air pollution in the city of Valjevo, but also the surrounding area – the company said.
