UNDP to Begin Dialogues on a Just Green Transition in Serbia
– In order for the green transition of the economy in Serbia to be carried out in full respect of the specificities of the sector and the region, which are based on an intensive use of fossil fuels. With the support of the Government of Japan, the UNDP is launching a social dialogue about how to reduce the loss of jobs, how to retrain workers on time and diversify income sources in the towns and municipalities which rely on coal production – the press release says.
The first in the range of dialogues which will gather representatives of ministries in charge of energy, environmental protection, labor and education, as well as representatives of employers, representative workers’ unions, civil society and international organizations.
The study “First Steps Toward a Just Transition in Serbia”, which was prepared with the support of the UNDP, will be presented to the public for the first time at the event, the press release says.
“Dialogues on a Just Green Transition in Serbia” are organized within the project “A Just Green Transition and Decarbonization in Serbia”, which the UNDP is realizing in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Mining and Energy, with the financial support of the Government of Japan.
