The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, extended an appeal from Budapest to the European Union yesterday to “do everything to strengthen the euro”, because otherwise, everybody outside the eurozone, as he said, will grow even poorer.

– I am begging EU representatives to do everything to strengthen the euro, because that is the next landmine for us all, because, with the growth of the dollar, the prices of oil grow too. The dollar is so strong that Americans will be able to buy everything they need in the European territory for far less money than was possible before – Vucic told the press following the meeting on immigration with the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orban, and the Austrian chancellor, Karl Nehammer.

Vucic emphasized that, if the euro continued to weaken compared to the dollar, there would be problems in EU states, because the euro would not have equal value everywhere due to the inflation and it would bring “additional economic problems, especially for us on the periphery”.

– The problem is that we will all grow even poorer, those of us who are not in the Eurozone or the EU. We need to buy dollars with euros and that is a serious problem for us – he said.
